Idaho Kayaking Elopement – Pacific Northwest Photographer

Adventure elopement featuring the lakes and forests of North Idaho

Idaho Kayaking Elopement

That’s right, KAYAKING in a wedding dress. This couple really wanted an experience based, adventurous day. Kayaking is an incredible way to get beautiful photos while also prioritizing your experience. We started their day with a small ceremony in the forest with their family and then moved onto kayaking to their picnic and portrait location.

Idaho is the ultimate hidden gem when it comes to elopements. Oregon and Washington dominate the elopement world while Idaho is often lost to the wayside. Idaho is packed with low traffic, unique locations for your elopement day. You’ll find far fewer tourists and lots of recreation options (like this epic kayaking day). If you don’t want the same backdrop as other Pacific Northwest elopements, you should definitely look into Idaho. You’ll also want to hire a photographer who is very familiar with Idaho (hint, hint, I’m from Idaho ;)) because it can be extra difficult to find the hidden gems. The extra challenge is what makes the area so worth considering for your elopement.

Forest Elopement Ceremony

Venturing Vows Officiant wrote a beautiful ceremony for this couple! Getting legally married in Idaho is especially simple. You need an officiant but unlike many states, no witnesses are required. Online ordinations are accepted in the state of Idaho. Universal Life Church is my top recommendation if you want a loved one to officiate for you! Their ordination is free and the ordination is good for life. There’s many sites that will try to get you to pay unnecessarily. You can learn more about legally getting married in Idaho here!

If you’re going to opt to add kayaking to your day, you’ll likely want to stick with stillwater for safety reasons. You’ll also want to make sure you’re capable of swimming in whatever you’re wearing. A massive, heavy dress isn’t a good option for this kind of elopement. You can learn more about kayak safety here to make sure kayaking would be a safe option for your day!
